Timescapes

Timescapes is a series of time lapse films that utilise Kessler technology - http://www.kesslercrane.com/

The Kessler Cranes are mounts for your cameras that run on tracks with motors and do all kinds of crazy things and add a sense of movement in to the time lapse films. Some of the effects that have been achieved are mind blowing! and They have recently introduces a way in which alter focus during the camera movement too!!

Just think of the mental effects you could get when they make them tilt and shift compatible so that you can move the camera on 3 axis as well as the lens!

TimeScapes: Rapture from Tom Lowe on Vimeo.

After the jump there is another video, its a Timescapes making of style video! its also well worth a look!!

Porter Robinson's Capture the Can

Beautiful slow-mo paint-ball war, enjoy as people display their frankly disturbing accuracy with paint-ball gun. Also it would be quite funny to see someone actually try to do half these things in an actual paint-ball game. There's the film its self and the making of, just after the jump. Porter Robinson well done sir.

Water Fountain Printer

The Japanese have created this beauty in Osaka City Station. It's a water fountain that seems to double up as a basic dot-matrix printer. By changing the flow of the water the fountain can create beautiful pictures, messages and even acts like a clock.

It has to be seen to be believed.

The RISD Moonbuggy

For quite a while at the hub, I and a few others have had what could be called, because it is, a D.I.Y. bike obsession. Call it what you will this brilliant group entered NASA’s Great Moonbuggy Race, and won. The Rhode Island School of Design or RISD are these aforementioned winners. Please enjoy their exploits.

The web site dedicated to this project among others is www.bryancloyd.com , the statement on the site states "NASA’s Great Moonbuggy Race, which is held annually at the Marshall Space Flight Center, in Huntsville, Alabama, challenges students to design, build and race lightweight, human-powered vehicles that can whiz across a simulation of a rugged lunar landscape. Teams are judged by how quickly and easily their vehicles negotiate the twisting curves, treacherous gravel pits and other obstacles of a half-mile course riddled with some of the same challenges faced by Apollo-era astronauts in their lunar rovers. Last year RISD was the first design school to ever enter the competition. RISD "took home third place in their first race appearance, despite having no engineers on their team (all team members are Industrial Design students)," as NASA put it in their press release." to read more and somehead cam footage from the race catch the jump.

Homemade Atomic Reactor

Maybe it's because I have a hangover that feels like a bear is scooping out my brains and aliens are doing intrusive tests on what remains of me but this amuses me somewhat.

A Swedish man, Richard Handl has attempted to create his own nuclear reactor in his own home. He acquired the materials on the internet and said he had hoped he might split an atom. (See one of the images he posted on the web of his efforts below)

The authorities got onto his fiendish plot when he contacted the Swedish radiation authority to check if what he was doing was legal. What is clear is that the police have stopped a supervillain in the making. Holy Macceroni, maybe the police raid was accompanied by some crazy graphics of words like BAM!!! WHAM!!!! SMACK!!!! TWOOOH!!!

We will never know but the whole caper might just as well have involved Roger Moore aggressively seducing the nearest lady whilst making 1970's innuendo to a bald apparently headless man who strokes his bejewlled pussy...cat.

A robot that can fly like a bird

Is this the beginning will razorbeak be here soon?

TED State "Plenty of robots can fly -- but none can fly like a real bird. That is, until Markus Fischer and his team at Festo built SmartBird, a large, lightweight robot, modeled on a seagull, that flies by flapping its wings."

5 Ton Megatron Sculpture

This sculpture is one dedicated effort from pone Chinese man. Looking like the Bat mobile from hell the whole structure was built from scrap to form a frankly terrifying object. Given time this is what CGI probably will get to and I for one will be disturbed by this. None the less a magnificent effort from one man. Catch more images after the jump, Enjoy.

Interactive Tron Halfpipe

Lets face it Disney did some truly ace advertising for Tron Legacy when it was coming out this is a technique they used in Australia. I've got to say i am convinced.

Bugatti Veyron mod

Floats like a butterfly stings like a walrus. I am not in the habit of reading the Daily Mail I really want to make that clear now, I have no news paper affiliation. However this is just wicked. he has taken his Ford Cougar and put one bespoke body kit on it transforming it into the iconic Veyron. Ridiculous but well done sir. I was looking for a follow up post to my Hummer post of a few weeks ago and I admit I failed to find anything that I could honestly one up those beasts with.

Therefore I present to you a one downing. There is more chance of winning the Gadget show prize than getting these monsters insured I feel.

1 X Solar Charge controller £15
2 meters of 15amp cable ( Already had)
1 X 15ah battery £20
8 X Spade connectors £1
1 X Power Inverter ( Above the wattage of the the equipment you use ) £30
2 X 13amp switched fuseways £4
1 X RCD ( Already had)
2 X 13amp wall sockets £ 4
5 meters of 23amp mains cable ( Already had)
1 X Energy saving lightbulb and Brakcet ( Already had)
Wire connectors (I used like 20!) £1
Other Items £5

Total £110

This post came via Instructables to read the full tutorial of how to kit out your shed or garage for solar power read the full tutorial here. Personally I have now mains power to my garage and whilst there’s no way to get said power I think I will be trying something like this at some point as I don't have any lights. If anyone does have a crack at anything like this or for that matter already has done please share any advice you have on the concept. Enjoy
