Drawing Machines

Hello all! Its been quite some time since I posted! I am currently in End of Degree HELL with essays due in pieces of music ... to even conceive. Actually saying that i have been in this almost end of degree hell for quite some time now, the stress is taking its toll and I may be taken away by the men in white suits rather soon!!

BUT before that happens here is something that I think is Brilliant.

As much as I love actually doing something my self (writing music, drawing, desining what ever!) I am essentially .... a man. A stereotypical man! (sorry no sexism meant by this) but what that does mean is I am always looking for ways in which to get out of doing work. Ok this is a complete lie but I am very interested in the systems and ideas behind projects that create autonomously, Generative Art. Setting a process in motion and the product is done for you, be it music, film, art. I especially love it when you can see said process.

Marco Zamora : Urban Imagery

Marco Zamora creates initially monochromatic imagery through a collage of different sources. These creations are then focused and heightened with the specific introduction of colour. These images are a calculated study of the human condition yet they are striking and beautiful also.

Marco's website states, "Marco Zamora was born and currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California. In 2004 he graduated from California Institute of the Arts, with a Bachelor of Fine Art. Using the paintbrush and pen to draw, Marco develops imagery about the urban landscape and the people that inhabit it. Producing a richly complex and experimental image, Marco goes into a neighborhood and shoots a spot, recontectualizing and collaging figures to create each paintings identity. City life, his culture, color/scale experimentation, and the working class have influenced his artwork. Splitting his time between painting and apparel design, Marco's recent work can be seen in a variety of Van's ads and collaboration projects as well as galleries up and down the west coast."

Seascraper Concept

I found this whilst researching yesterday's post. This is a concept design looking at the reapplication of oil rigs as sustainable living spaces.

This design by Young Wan Kim, Sue Hwan Kwun, Jun Young Park and Joong Ha Park recently recieved an honourable mention at the 2011 eVolo Skyscraper competition.

The structure also through a process of distillation would make its own drinking water.

MC Escher's Waterfall Brought to Life

Most people will be aware of MC Escher's Waterfall, a mathematical play on perspective. Well some genius has managed to construct a working 3 Dimensional version if this design. These 3D versions of this iconic drawing have been around for a while but we haven't seen many that even come close to the realism show in this piece. Its similarity to the original drawing, attention to detail etc is simply staggering.

If you would like to see more images from the design hit the jump, Or even try to make your own one the original post is here at, Instructables.

Superman Red Son

What if Superman had landed in the USSR? That is the question Mark Millar's Superman Red Son examines.

The plot stays away from shifting Superman to the role of villain which is a wise move in our eyes. Instead he is the hero of the Soviet Union fighting for Stalin, socialism and the international expansion of the Warsaw pact. He grows up on a farm on a Ukrainian collective farm and his human name is a state secret.

Carsten Nicolai

The work of German artist Carsten Nicolai blends the disciplines of mathematics, science and art. The piece above refers to Richard Buckminster Fuller's experiment concerning the packing of spheres in space. The Kepler Conjecture deals with the maximum density of differently arranged three-dimensional layers of spheres.

Cinzia Bacilieri Paintings

Cinzia Bacilieri is an Italian artist working out of North Yorkshire.

Her works are wonderfully textural and encompass a few topics of imagery. Personally i prefer the ones of trees as the mark-making lends itself particularly well to organic objects. She also works in a more abstract and whimsical manner. The images are a pleasure to look at as they roll across the page and crisply finish in different areas.

Altogether the works are complete together as a body of work however although they gain strength from one another they enjoy a different kind of emphasis when shown on there own.
