Alexander Baynes Illustrations
Icons of London - sourced at www.artgallery.co.uk
Alexander Baynes uses simplistic color design twinned with a stylistic reductionist approach to create these artworks. His works often depict icons, whether these "icons" are architectural or physiological is more dependent on the work in question. His work is seductive to the eye in its simplicity and allows the viewer to respond and come to their own conclusions about the depiction, based on visual assumptions and the inherent semiotics within each piece.
The precise yet relaxed visual style of both the imagery and the mark-making found within his work is endearing to the viewer. This relaxed and gestural approach to the imagery allows for a less academic interaction between viewer and work which is often overlooked within contemporary conceptual art.

Batman 3 : "The Man Who Broke the Bat"
image sourced from Scabrouspencil
There are reports or rumors that Chris Nolan's third Batman flick may contain Bane possibly to be played by Thomas Hardy, and Catwoman, possibly to be played by Anne Hathaway.
Whilst these are rumors and none of this information is on IMDB the potential for "The man who broke the bat" to occur which may see Bruce Wayne leaving this particular installment as a paraplegic. Either way the promise of another Nolan Batman epic is full of potential and only time will tell in the end.

Tomek Baginski's Kiwi
December the 16th 2010 saw a post on Fallen Art by Tomek Baginski. This is one of his earlier works still an ace animation just with a bit less of an emphasis on texture quality. it still features the kind of dark humor that is displayed so eloquently in Fallen Art. However we will let you be the judge of that. Enjoy

Five Years until Mammoth Resurrection
Mammoth resurrection is the goal for Japanese scientist Professor Akira Iritani. The current intention is to visit the Siberia in search of a well preserved sample and then given the normal elephant gestation period being around 600 days the wait is on.

Shift 1 : Portal esk head messing Awesomeness!
This is an amazing game. I know its nothing like Portal, but it just reminds me of the way that Portal just messes with your head.
Basically at the touch of a key your world is turned upside down! Unfortunatly shift plays music so its afteter the jump link. this is just a picture.
Give it ago, after the jump!
Film of the Week : District 9
If you read our District 9 concept art post, or you are just a D9 fan, or even if you haven't heard of it before; this is for you.
District 9, a film by Neill Blomkamp and Peter Jackson paints a picture of a dystopic future for South Africa and more specifically Johannesburg. Aliens come to earth this is all you need to know. A fantastically gritty sci-fi flick worth a watch and it should give you a few quotes to boot. One thing to note about this movie is the fantastic viral campaign which ran along side the movies release, catch the trailer bellow and some artwork after the jump.

DIY Amazing Predator Costumes
Every now and then some absolute genius adds something to the world we live in. In this case a website devoted entirely to the DIY construction of predator costumes. Named The Hunters Lair this website is a showcase for the DIY exploits of hundreds of Predator fans. It also provides allot of forum opportunities and group criticism of the budding Predator constructor. In a sad way this entire forum is like a international homage to the great late Stan Winston who very sadly died in 2008. After creating such memorable creatures and characters as he did the strength of his work even today continues through things like this website.
The lengths to which some people have gone to to create their own Predators are frankly amazing and really do deserve some credit. As some of my friends may remember i spent quite some time a few years ago having a crack at building one of these myself. Needless to say i failed and I'm still 4 years later finding bits of clay and polystyrene in my clothes that remind me just how badly i failed. I wish you all the best of luck if you do decide to try making one your self.
If your interested their are a few pictures after the jump but nip over to The Hunters Lair and have a look for your self.

Nina Canell
I first became aware of Swedish artist Nina Canell at Art Sheffield in 2010. Her show at Bloc was strange, simple and wonderful.
Her pieces are frequently the outcome of playful experimentation with arrangements, substances and objects. She turns invisible energies into tangible forms.
Recently she was part of the Liverpool Biennial 2010.

Need for Speed Ultimate Police Car
With the release of EA games' Need for Speed Hot pursuit it is probably high time we covered the topic of amazing police cars. Yes it would be easy for me to do an artile highlighting yet again the technical brilliance of a Bugatti Veyron however I feel there are also other police cars worthy of note.
For example
Lamborghini Police interceptor car. Image sourced from: http://needforspeedpc.com
This is a game title I remember from about ten years ago; one which if any of you played you might remember for its insanely harsh damage and solid scenery elements. It was still a great game though. I only stopped playing it because I got sick of getting miles into the game and then losing my best / only good car in a head to head race and having to go back and save money for a new Lamborghini or BMW.
Anyway I found this whilst trawling the net earlier and thought this could be a worthy winner of the most extravagant police car. For your enjoyment the Coparo T1 Police car.

Film of the Week : The Book of Eli
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, Denzel Washington (need I continue...) is on his little quest and let me tell you, I wouldn't want to try and stop him! But Gary Oldman will give it ago!
Awesome film, well shot with an interesting story line that isn't what you first expect... then it twists even more!
Don't go in to it just expecting lots of violence and gore, as the story line is deeper than that, just take it with an open mind. And when you watch it a second time after having seen the ending, you do pick up on a lot of things you wouldn't other wise!
Incredible Human waste Ship Graveyard's
Whilst this is not the first time that this topic has been brought to attention, may be of some interest. Probably the most notable of these graveyard's or cemetery's is Nouadhibou bay in Mauritania. Around 300 ships lay at rest here in after officials accepted bribes to allow the ships to be dumped.
One place on earth with great notoriety for ship breaking, actually taking the ships apart rather than leaving them as waste, is Gadani beach in Alang Pakistan. This video contains Mad Max 2 esq style choices and a ship being beached

A Year In MP3 : Luke Dubois
Luke Dubois, who works for Cycling 74 (the company that brought us the amazingness that is Max/MSP/Jitter - more on that in a later post I am sure) and who helped create Jitter, started a project in September of 2009 whereby he made a new piece of generative music every single day!
To me this is amazing and some of the music produced is fantastic!! I advise anybody with any interest in generative music, music in general, computers... actually scrap that. I advise EVERYBODY to look at this!! Unfortunately, to my disappointment there is nothing online that gives any information as to how the pieces where produced, but that just makes them magical :-)
Just click the following like to check it out!

Happy 11th Birthday Longplayer
For my first post on this here HUB, I would like to wish a happy 11th birthday to Jem Fimer's Longplayer.
Jem Fimer, the banjo player and one of the founding members of the Pogues (very famous this time of year for that song - Fairy Tale of New York) went on to writing a piece of generative music called Longplayer. It was started on the strike of midnight the 1st of January 2000 and the piece was written in such a way that it will play, with out repetition, for 1000 years!!
Using similar techniques as Brian Eno on his album Music For Airports, Jem has recorded lots of loops of different lengths, and they will not come back in to sync with each other till the year 3000. Unlike Brian Eno who used long tape loops cut to precise lengths, Jem used computers - lets hope if doesn't crash.
For more information check out its website here.
